Food for Thought.

with 4 comments

Yes, its a little unexpected coming from me, but nonetheless, I felt it worth posting, because its a very serious issue, especially in Australia in the light of the arrest of one Dr Haneef who was associated it seems only by relationship with the bombing in Scotland. His second cousin was a part of it. There is no evidence of his involvement, but the federal police are finding some, anyway.

However: onward to this which I received in email today from a couple of different sources.

A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.

“Very few people were true Nazis “he said,” but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.”

We are told again and again by “experts” and “talking heads” that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace.

Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.

It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars world-wide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave.

It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honour kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard quantifiable fact is that the “peaceful majority” the “silent majority” is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia comprised Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.

China’s huge population, it was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel and bayonet.

Who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were “peace loving”?

Don’t forget the killing fields of Cambodia

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.

Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Cambodians, Serbs, Afgans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

As for us who watch it all unfold; we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

I’ve passed the email on. Its certainly something worth thinking about.

Payrise for Federal Government

with 2 comments

Nothing for the rest of us

Here we are, most of the working population of Australia barely able to make ends meet, and our Federal Government decides its worth an additional 7%. The least paid of them currently gets around $118,000, they get expense accounts, various lurks and perks and in all the package would be worth a lot more…

I haven’t seen evidence of an increase in productivity. Watching parliament “perform” on TV, or listening to them on radio… they deserve about the same wage as a 14 year old…

How about 7% for the whole country? Including people on social security payments. Better still, how about a rational wage for all of them according to what they actually DO? (Which, in many cases, is pretty much nothing)

Labor Party: Complete Idiots.

with one comment

Some things really piss me off something shocking.

The Labor Party’s decision to give Kelly Hoare the boot in favor of Greg Combet is sickening. Its the kind of thing which turns me OFF a labor vote.

Kelly has been the sitting member for Charlton since (I think) 1998. She’s done a fabulous job. She cares about her constituents because she lives here, she’s lived here all her life. She knows the people, she knows the problems of the area, she knows what needs fixing AND she listens to her constituents. If Kelly stands in Charlton again, the Labor party is assured of a win.

But, in its group wisdom, the Party has decided to kick Kelly out and bring in someone who doesnt live in the area, who has never lived in the area, who hasn’t a clue about the local people and the local situation but has done a fine job as a secretary of the ACTU (Australian Council of Trade Unions) in the Rights at Work campaign. Mind you, if Howard had never pushed his new Industrial Relations policies, nobody would know who the hell Greg Combet is, right now.

They could have had him stand in his own electorate. He would probably win, no matter who the current sitting member is… but instead, they have decided to get rid of Kelly. Lord knows what’s going to happen to her, she’s out of a job. Not because she hasn’t done a good one herself, but because the golden-haired boy has to have a “safe seat”. Obviously they don’t trust him on his own merit, he can only succeed riding on Kelly’s coattails.

I’m sick to bloody death of Party Politics. We should be aiming for Direct Democracy… not this pathetic crap which is designed not for the good of the people but always for the good of the party. Our electoral system is a self-sustaining self-serving nonsense.

Direct Democracy is beginning to be the only thing that makes sense to me.

… is this what’s coming?

I don’t know when the photographs were taken, it might have been any time since 9/11.

Whatever the case, between the people who think like this, the likes of George Bush, and the multinational companies who rape and pillage resources on a daily basis, not to mention the incipient environmental tragedy that is global warming, this planet is well and truly stuffed.

Peter Garrett Sells Out

with 4 comments

Tonight, Garrett announced his full support for yet another American base to be built in Australia adding to the already substantial spy bases at Nurrungar, Northwest Cape, Pine Gap and Tidbinbilla: now we will also have an American military base for trainig their troops in WA (oh well, its closer to the Middle East). Stop me if I seem to be mistaken… but don’t we normally keep Australian soil for training Australian troops? Or did I miss something and we have already become a new US state, with absolutely none of the benefits which that might bring (and yes, I do use the word “benefits” very loosely)

This switcheroo would not seem to be at odds with being a politician in a major political party, if it were not also for the fact that Garrett is the former front-man to the politically and socially aware (and extremely successful) rock group, Midnight Oil. The Oils were well known for their continual social commentary and raging against the establishment… not just for its own sake, but because there was and is very much to be concerned about. Apparently, though, that was then and this is now.

Garrett explains it all away as having been youthful exuberance (or somesuch completely unbelievable story).

Am I being too savage? I don’t think so. I still remember when Bob Hawke made a similar about-face on the Uranium issue… after years of shouting that if he were elected, there would be no new mines and no selling Uranium overseas… it lasted about 6 months.

Who’s running this country? Seems to me its not Australians.

Labor Party Leadership Challenge

with 8 comments

Here we go again, regular as clockwork, its almost Christmas so lets have a challenge to the leadership of the Labor Party.

On this particular occasion, I think it should have happened a long time ago. In fact, I never supported Kim Beazley being leader again after he has failed to make an impression on the Australian voting public many times in the past. I’m sure he’s a really nice man, and he means well, but he’s a fence sitter, and he just does not have the necessaries to lead the Labor Party to victory in 2007.

Something the Labor Caucus voters on Monday night really need to be aware of (but they don’t read my blog so they won’t give a rats ass what I am saying here)… is that last time round, it was not that the Liberal party won (ya hear that, John Howard?) it was that the Labor Party lost. Its a fine distinction with the same ultimate result… but with Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard leading the party, there is a very very BIG probability of a Labor win. If Kim Beazley is re-elected, then the Labor Caucus will have consigned us to another term with Howard (or, god forbid, Costello) running the show.

Please God let the voters see sense on Monday night.

Iraq War: What the..?

with 3 comments

I saw Alexander (Head Prefect) Downer sounding off this evening on the news in his usual fashion, defending the Iraq war. Somehow this man and his mate John (School Captain) Howard have still not got the message that the Australian public KNOWS for certain that there is no connection between Iraq and what happened on September 11 in New York.

I find it absolutely amazing that in spite of all the evidence being in favour of having allowed Saddam Hussein to continue his oppression of his people (in other words, I know the guy is a nasty piece of work), we still went to war on the pretence of there having been Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. We know there were none, we know Saddam did as he was told and stopped the development of a nuclear program and yet… there we are.

The inevitable result is a constant battle between various religious sects and tribes, for power. It is already a civil war, but nobody is calling it yet. Its a bloody nightmare over there, WE caused it, and now we use its existence for justification of our presence. Thats as psychopathic as someone saying “I hit him because he was going to hit me and now that he hit me back, my first hit is justified”.

Our leaders are raving psychopaths who need to be shut down. Please god the next election brings some sense because right now, this lunacy is creating more problems than it ever could possibly have solved.
